The PM fly water has been hot for trout and steelhead too. Some fish are spawning making egg flies a great option, stone and alevin patterns are also a go to. Standard nymph rigs are working best concentrating on deep pools near gravel.

With the nice warm up this past week the Pere Marquette has fished well! A few fish in the flies only section started scratching rocks, but most fish are in pools and deep holes. The majority of steelhead are winter holdovers and are colored up beautiful! Trout were quite active as well with some nice ones to hand. The middle sections from Gleason's to Custer have a nice mixture of winter fish and new ones and the Lower river from Custer down is seeing some nice pushes of chrome fish. As long as temps do not plummet shelf ice should not be an issue. Best flies have been small stonefly nymphs, buggers and rag eggs.

The Pere Marquette River is fishing well and has fish throughout the system. Fishing techniques are near the same as we are using on the Manistee River. Slow presentations with either a center pin set up or nymphing deep with switch rods has been working best. TroutBeads (10mm Sunburst Glow), Rag Eggs and stonefly nymphs have been getting it done. This is an awesome time to book a guide trip with low fishing pressure and plenty of fish to go around. Don't let the weather scare you, layer good and wear good boots, being in the boat all day is much easier on the body than wading.
