As you'll see in our Pere Marquette fishing reports and our Manistee fishing reports, many Steelhead hold over from the fall and reside all winter in the river along with new fish continuing to show up. In early February you will find fish migrating up the smaller tributaries to spawn. Now a lot of you just said "this guy is crazy, Steelhead spawn in March and April", well that is true, BUT summer run steel and some of hold over winter fish get busy early! Smaller rivers such as Bear Creek and the Pere Marquette warm up much faster and because both of these rivers have 100% wild fish they are on a different schedule. Now this does not mean they will peak now, they just get a taste of things to come. If you would like to book a small river trip I'd suggest doing it with any warm up in February or anytime in March.
