It started last spring one day I asked my friend and guide Nick, to teach me to spey cast. I watched so many videos on casting, catching and the art of the spey cast. I wanted that to be me. It seemed so hard though, I was a pro caster but I had caught fish so many ways, nymphing, dry fly and my lesser known skill, streamer. I wanted something more! It was one of those things I thought looked over whelming and intricate that gee if I could learn that I was in! So it began, right then and there, we got up and headed over to the casting pond. I was nervous, I mean this was a 13” 4’ rod with incredibly heavy line. I could not rely on the back cast to push my fly forward. Well, we spent hours out there and I found out, wow I can do this, I am doing this, that feeling set a bomb off in me! I fell right into the addiction, that day I bought a rod and Echo E3, I spooled on the best line Airflo F.I.S.T, my boss Dave gave me all the tools I would need to set off on this adventure. I went straight home after work and onto the water, and with all the confidence in the world I set foot in the water and casted. Well as you might have guessed I didn’t catch anything, but it didn’t matter, I was obsessed.
